Welcome!
The Island Grown Initiative is a grassroots non-profit working to support local food and farming on Martha’s Vineyard.
The island of Martha's Vineyard supports roughly twenty-eight small family farms and countless backyard growers. Determined, our farmers till fertile soils and grassy plains, to grow produce and raise animals which help support the local economy and feed local families good, healthy, clean food.
IGI raises consumer awareness about the importance of locally-grown food and works to build and reinvent the necessary infrastructure that supports the growers.
On this site you'll find information about the island's farms - what they grow and how to find them. We've forums for farmers to connect to one another and to connect to markets. Consumers (eaters) can come here to share information and ask questions about locally grown food. There's also information about IGI's projects - the Pastured Poultry Pilot Program, the MPPU, the latest news about food and farming on the Vineyard and about ways you can participate via contributions of time and/or financial resources.
