Launch of a MV poultry blog
Hello,
This is Doug Brush. I live on the Fischers' Flat Point Farm in West Tisbury.
I raised about 100 birds (well...to be honest, 75 actually made it through) last summer and had enough success that I think I'll be "upping the ante" this spring and summer. My friend Jeff Munroe (of Hosteling International fame) and I are going to raise more birds this spring. We're tentatively planning on runs of 200 or so. IGI's MPPU has really made raising meat birds on the Vineyard a viable farm enterprise and so we're going ahead and trying 'real' production in a CSA model.
I'm posting this to let folks know that we're also launching a blog which can be looked over at:
flatpointpoultry.blogspot.com
We're going to update our progress and include things like links to pertinent articles, photo/video essays about pen construction, brooding, fabricating birds into 'cuts'...a whole bunch of stuff.
So if you are interested in growing birds or are curious about purchasing and want to know more about the pastured poultry and how the birds are raised then check in with the blog occasionally.
And be sure to spread the word about the event at the Ag Hall on the 16th.
In Poultry We Trust,
Doug Brush
