What is Island Grown Initaitive?

January 18th, 2012  |  Published in What is Island Grown Initiative?

IGI is a non-profit organization based on Martha’s Vineyard that works to grow community through sustainable agriculture, local food advocacy and education.

We strive to increase both the supply and demand of locally grown food for the health of the environment and our community through our five core programs: Island Grown Schools, our farm-to-school program; Island Grown Meat; Island Grown Poultry; Island Grown Bees; and Island Grown Gleaning.

We have worked in collaboration with the MV Agricultural Society, the Vineyard Conservation Society, Vineyard Energy Project, the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, Slow Food MV, and the FARM Institute. We also collaborate and receive support from the Massachusetts Department of Ag Resources, UMass Amherst’s Ethnic Crops Program, the Mass Farm to School Program, the national Farm to School Program, and the National Sustinable Agirculture Coalition.

The Farm Neck Foundation, Permanent Endowment Fund of Martha’s Vineyard and the MV Hebrew Center provided foundational support. We also receive financial support from the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation, the Samuel Rubin Fund, the Clif Bar Family Foundation, Whole Foods, Diva’s Uncorked, Cronig’s Market, Dakota Organic Beef, South Mountain Company, NSARE, the Delacour Family Foundation, the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, the US Department of Agriculture, and private donors.

We hope that you will join us as we work to support and celebrate local agriculture. For more information or to become involved in any of our projects, please contact us at info@islandgrown.org.
